MOFEST 2
October 2006 • 90 attendees

This event was held at a very cool and very funky near-abandoned church that was converted into a theater by a group of artists. As the fest was starting to grow we asked for donations, and for the first (of many years to come), Essanay and Honest Foods donated a massive abundance (and even that’s an understatement) of catered food to the cause. Becky Werve helped with the decorations and even baked a cake, and as this was held at the end of October, we had many of the attendees in costumes, including Roger McGuin’s very infamous steak costume.

This was also the very first year Marcus Quandt created a music playlist for the event and founder and festival director (an overstatement back then) purchased a DVD burner to get the films onto one DVD, and promptly returned the burner with the original disc still inside.

If anyone happens to have a photo from this event please be sure to send it my way!

This was the very first event ever held – and before John Adams coined the term “Mofest” – it was called Produktion Fest (bad misspelling and marketing intentional). We held the event at the Cornsevatory Theater on Lincoln thanks to the tremendous generosity of Becky Werve. The night started with some mingling and food and beer by Becky Werve, followed by a VHS tape screening of the films, most of which were barely audible and discernible student films.
Nonetheless founder Mo Wagdy was still enthusiastic and gave one of his most heartfelt speeches in recent memory. For at that moment, in the small audience of filmmakers and artists seated in front of him, he could sense a certain eagerness as they were about to share their films on the big screen.

And the event actually being held in the first place was due to the insistence and additional invitations of Andy Pearson and that and for Becky’s participation I am forever grateful.
