Some teams make up the story as they go. Some teams focus on one-take and ditch the edit. Some teams don’t sleep for 2 days straight.
Whatever your strategy, it takes a tremendous amount of creative insanity, resourcefulness and downright insanity to want to concept, write, act, shoot, and edit a short narrative film in 48 short hours. At Mofest we carry a tradition of holding a 48-hour challenge the weekend before the main event. We identify and gather our teams, meet at an undisclosed location, get our materials and run with it.
For a 48-hour film challenge to work, all the teams need a level playing field. To do this, we give each team its own set of constraints. Genre, usage of a specific prop and line of dialog, and filming specified locations have all been constraints beset upon our filmmakers and the results are typically nothing short of amazing. We screen the 48-hour shorts at in the second half of the Main Event and it keeps people in the seats and laughing.
Any and all walks of life are encouraged to participate. For information on how to join in the fun contact mo@mofest.org!
